SCOPES Stamford Coalition of Parents Expecting Success (SCOPES)

The Stamford Coalition of Parents Expecting Success (SCOPES) – a committee of the Parent Teacher Council of Stamford – is being relaunched in partnership with Stamford Public Schools. SCOPES is a parent support network and community resource on special education issues.

Please join us for the first SCOPES meeting on Wednesday, November 1 at 6:00 p.m. via zoom.

Dr. Michael Fernandes, Associate Superintendent for School Support, will moderate the discussion about special education and related services. Panelists are Meghan Osowiecki, Director of Special Education and Related Services for Stamford Public Schools, and Nicole Raucher, President of the SCOPES Parent Advisory Board.

Family Workshops October:

Supply Needs: APPLES is always in need of wipes and gloves. Please no scented wipes. If you are at the store and can pick up a box for us, we would greatly appreciate it. Wipes are used for art, bathroom, eating, you name it we used wipes. We use gloves a lot as well during bathroom time. Thank you in advance.

Flu Shots- Reminder: Documentation of a flu shot needs to be handed in to Nurse Darlene by December break. Contact Nurse Darlene at dgaspard@stamfordct.gov for any questions.

Reminder, Wednesday, October 25th is an EARLY RELEASE DAY for ALL Students. Students will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. Our staff appreciates your efforts. The Early Release allows us to participate in professional development.

We hope you all are enjoying the three day weekend! We had some exciting events last week at APPLES. Please check out our instagram @applesprek for pictures from these events.

Our First “Donuts with Grownups” was a success! Thank you to our amazing PTA for putting this together for our families. We also want to thank So Fresh Donut Company for donating delicious donuts for our parents. We hope this event helped you to meet other parents and develop important connections.

Last Monday, we celebrated National Custodian Day! We have the best custodian- Mr. Freddie! Our staff and students showed him love for all he does for us each and every day.

Most exciting, the rest of our Apples signs are up!!!!

Thank you again to APPLES parent and SPS staff member Andrew Glassman for helping us to get these signs. Thank you also to APPLES parent, Maria Ramos, for designing our new logo! We are so thankful to you for demonstrating the beauty of our children with these signs.

Soccer Shots Empower Curriculum: See Message from Soccer Shots below:

Hello, Apples families! I wanted to send a quick message to let you know of some exciting advancements that are happening within Soccer Shots franchising! As you know, we come to your school every Monday and Thursday to serve our Soccer Friends here at Apples. This opportunity has been such a blessing to us, and has gotten us even more excited about growing the Empower program (our accessible Soccer Shots program for children with disabilities) within our own franchise. Franchising has also been motivated by our partnership together, and it has been an impetus for them to work on revamping the Empower program and curriculum, making it more accessible for franchises and therefore children with disabilities across all Soccer Shots franchises to run this program. With that being said, we are going to be taking some steps to help franchising do this. Heather Ha, the director of product development for Soccer Shots franchising will be joining us from PA during the day on Monday October 16th to video parts of our sessions during the day. These videos are SOLELY for TRAINING purposes, and will only be used INTERNALLY within Soccer Shots and its franchising teams. In addition, during the evening, we will be offering a FREE parent-assisted Empower session on the field outside for any parents that would be interested in getting in on the action, and being part of a filmed session for the same purposes! We would be so grateful for your participation in one or both of these activities.

If you would like to opt out of soccer on the days of filming, please email Kendra Brown at kbrown@stamfordct.gov. If you have already shared with Kendra that you do not want your child to be photographed, your child will not participate in the filming.

In the same way, if you are interested in being a part of the free afternoon classes with your child, please email me at kalejos@soccershots.com and I will forward you more information. Happy Weekend APPLES!

Spirit Wear is in! If you did not receive your order of Spirit Wear at Open House, we will be sending it home with your child this week. Check in your child’s backpack for this festive spirit wear. There will be other chances to order Spirit Wear in the coming months.

Front Entrance of APPLES: We got upgraded signs this week thanks to our parent, and also Facilities Manager for the Stamford Public Schools, Andrew Glassman. Andrew and his team have been working with us for the past few months to help make some upgrades to our building. We will have one more sign coming this week! I will send a final picture soon!

The updated logo was designed by another talented APPLES parent, Maria Teresa Ramos. Thank you, Maria! We are so thankful for both of them for giving our school a beautiful upgrade!

The weather is beginning to feel like Fall! I hope you all enjoyed the weather this beautiful weekend. We would like to extend a Happy Rosh Hashanah to all our families who celebrate. We hope you had a wonderful weekend celebrating with family and friends.

We are excited to announce that we will be celebrating this special month with our students by exploring the rich culture of diverse Hispanic backgrounds. Throughout the month, our students will embark on an exciting journey where they will:

· Listen and dance to a variety of music and melodies from the Hispanic culture

· Explore the flags, foods & much more!

We are incredibly fortunate to have a thriving Hispanic population within our school, and we can't wait to come together as a community to celebrate the beauty of this heritage. We look forward to sharing our students' learning and experiences with you over the next month.

Transportation to APPLES

Thank you for your patience as we work with the bus company to ensure the correct stops are added to our Bus Rosters. Lisa and I have been in communication with the bus company multiple times a day every day. We are hopeful that by the end of the week all our stops will be up and running.

We have added either a bus or a car tag (Seen above) to ALL backpacks. Please do not remove these tags or send your child to school without these important safety labels. We do them to keep your child safe during arrival and dismissal.

The third picture is a picture of our pick up sign. This sign goes in the front windshield so that we can quickly and accurately bring your children to you at parent dismissal. Kindly remain in your car during dismissal until we bring your child to you. If you come to the door, it makes it unsafe for you to walk back to your car with your child and cars moving. We move the line as quickly, but safely as possible. Please have patience waiting and do not honk your horn. This upsets the students and we do not want that. Thank you for your cooperation.

Birthday Celebrations Policies: Birthdays are a very special and exciting day for all of us. As a school, we will be celebrating birthdays with non- food celebrations. We want to celebrate birthdays while also being sensitive to children with food allergies and assure a school environment that promotes students’ health and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and healthy choices.

Some examples of non- food birthday celebrations include:

Read your child’s favorite book to the class
Bring in stickers, pencils or fun erasers for the class
Plan a special art project in honor of your child’s birthday
Share and Tell: Your child can bring in their favorite toy/ book/ stuffed animal from home and share it with the class

If you choose to participate in any of the above celebrations, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher before your child’s birthday and so they can arrange a proper time for you to come in. Together, we can continue to celebrate our students in a healthy and positive way!

Early Dismissal

Even though we just started it is never too early to discuss the Early Release Schedule.

With the expected high temperatures this week, please keep an eye out for district news and the APPLES Dojo in case Stamford Public Schools decides to call an Early Release Day.

If there is inclement weather and we need to close school early, children will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m.

If your child attends another preschool program before or after our program, it is your responsibility to find out if that program is closing and let the teacher know if transportation is adjusted due to that closing. Please notify us as soon as possible on these inclement days.

Good Morning APPLES Families,

We are so excited to welcome the students back this week!

Last Thursday, we welcomed our staff back! We had a great day catching up and getting ready for the students. Here is a staff picture we took that demonstrates our excitement!

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 28th. Our staff will be meeting you and your children. We will give out bus and car tags. We will also have a school bus there for those who need to practice! Please stop by for 15-20 minutes anytime between 11 and 1 on Tuesday.

All classroom assignments were emailed to families. If you did not receive your child’s classroom assignment please check your email for an email from me (kbrown@stamfordct.gov). If you do not have it, please email me and I will share your classroom assignment.

Lisa Cody spent the weekend sharing bus information with families through email. If your child is taking a bus, you received an email from Lisa this weekend with the bus number and stop time. If you did not receive an email from Lisa and your child is supposed to be taking the bus, please email her at lcody@stamfordct.gov. Friendly reminder, only our students with special education services are eligible to take the bus.

A few things about buses:

Please plan to wait for the bus 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the assigned time for the first few days.
The buses will probably run late this week
There is an app you can download to track the bus. It is the First Student App. We will send information in next week’s family update on how to download this app. We need to give the buses time to get into a routine before having you all use the app
Once you receive your child's assignment, please keep in mind, the bus company only allows 1 address change a school year. Any changes take 10 school days. If you make a change now, it will not be ready for the first day of school.
We will give you your child’s bus tag during the Meet and Greet on Tuesday. If you cannot attend the meet and greet, please LABEL your child with their name and bus information.
We will have a bus at the Meet and Greet so students can practice

Car Drop Off:

We will be giving out car tags at Meet and Greet this week if you are bringing and picking your child up from school. Please put these tags in your windshield so we can expedite parent drop off and pick up
There are 2 lines for parent drop off and pick up. At pick up, please remain in your car and we will bring your child to you.
Please be patient in these lines. We go as fast as we can keeping student safety at the forefront.
For the first day of school, you can walk your child inside, but you will need to find a place to park in order to do this. If you come through the parent pick up line, please be prepared to drop your child off there. We will have staff from every single classroom to welcome and support your child

Registration:

Please remember your child must be fully registered to start school. Please check in with Ms. Bobbie if you are not sure if your child is registered. Her email address is bbarbier@stamfordct.gov.

Good Afternoon Families!

We are so excited to celebrate your children this week at our Moving Up Ceremonies.

We are going to have our staff park in a different location to give you plenty of spaces to park. Each ceremony will start right on time so please be mindful of arriving on time. Most of the ceremonies will be held outside in our front courtyard. You will see balloons to help you locate the ceremony. We have a backup plan for inclement weather!

Friendly Reminder Morning Arrival:

Friendly Reminder for parents who bring their children to school in the morning. The parent drop off door closes promptly at 8:15 a.m. This is due to staffing and teachers needing to begin the instructional day. Please do your best to arrive by 8:15 a.m. When you arrive after 8:15, it keeps staff out of classrooms supporting children and affects daily classroom routines. In recent weeks, many children have been arriving after 8:15 a.m. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and mother-like figures in our student’s lives. We are grateful for you and your collaboration to help us support your children! We hope you had a beautiful weekend.

Reminder: Wednesday, May 24th is a half day for all students. Dismissal is 10:30 a.m.

Over the next few weeks, we will be spending a lot of time outside. Please consider putting sunscreen on your child in the morning. We cannot apply sunscreen to your child without a doctor’s note so we appreciate you helping us out! We don’t want to send home any children with bright red cheeks! :)

This past week, we attending the Stamford Public Education Foundation’s (SPEF) Excellence in Education celebration. Our PTA nominated Simone Zwany for a “SPEF Educator Award.”

Simone is a great example of our heartworking, creative and loving staff. We were proud to represent APPLES and celebrate our amazing staff!

SPEF and SPS, along with Ferguson Library, is celebrating Children’s Book Week starting tomorrow, May 1st and running through Sunday, May 7th. Children can come by the library and receive 2 free books (while supplies last). This is for all Ferguson Library Branches.

We hope you all had a good weekend! On Friday, you should have received your child’s progress report for this marking period. We look forward to meeting with you this week to discuss your child’s growth thus far this school year.

Report Card Conferences will take place this Wednesday, March 22nd through Friday, March 24th. Students will follow a half day schedule for these three days with dismissal at 10:30 a.m.

Play and Learn Nights: We are excited to be hosting Play and Learn Nights in person this month. Play and Learn Nights are open to all families with children 0-5. Please come and get to know the staff at the elementary school where your child will attend. If you are not sure where your child will be attending next year, please reach out to myself or Lisa and we will help you. We look forward to seeing you there.

Friendly Reminder Morning Arrival:

Friendly Reminder for parents who bring their children to school in the morning. The parent drop off door closes promptly at 8:15 a.m. This is due to staffing and teachers needing to begin the instructional day. Please do your best to arrive by 8:15 a.m. When you arrive after 8:15, it keeps staff out of classrooms supporting children and affects daily classroom routines. In recent weeks, many children have been arriving after 8:15 a.m. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

Kindergarten Registration:

If you have a child entering Kindergarten for the Fall of 2023, you DO NOT need to re-register them for elementary schools. We will move their registration information from APPLES to the elementary school. The receiving elementary school will reach out to you over the summer and ask you to provide 2 new proofs of address and your child’s updated physical.

APPLES Families,

We hope all your children enjoyed coming back to school this week! We were so happy to be back with your children for this short week.

As we come to the end of February, we want to share all the learning that has taken place around Black History Month. The students will participate in a Gallery Walk of our building to see all the learning each class has completed. Shout out to Room 107 who has created the Underground Railroad outside their classroom as they learned about Harriet Tubman. Here are a few sneak peek pictures!

We will create a slideshow of photos demonstrating all classroom learning as they complete the gallery walk next week.

We also want to recognize that this week marks the 1 year anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine. We have many families who have been impacted by this invasion and we want you to know we are here to support you and are thinking of you during this difficult anniversary.

Save the Date: Our next Family Workshop we will be discussing the topic of Toileting Training! This workshop will be held virtually and will be run by our BCBA, Emily Harris. The workshop will be held on Thursday March 9th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Link to come.

Extended School Year/Summer Program

We are busy planning for our Extended Summer School Program. The dates for the program are Wednesday July 5, 2023 to Friday, July 28, 2023. Our Extended School Year program is for our students who receive special education services and students in our general education peer program. There is no summer program for our School Readiness Students. Registration forms will be emailed to you this weekend by Kendra Brown. Please check your email for this registration form.

Form for School Children's Health Program: (This information is ONLY for Families whose children receive Special Education Services). The form in the picture to the left and in this link: (Medicaid Form.pdf ) was sent home this week OR will be sent home next week for your signature. This form allows the district to be reimbursed for special education services. This reimbursement directly supports your children’s related services (Speech,Occupational Therapy, Social Skills). Please help us keep everyone as healthy as possibly by:

Keep your child home from school and contact a healthcare provider to determine the best way to treat your child if they become sick. Testing may be appropriate for respiratory illnesses, including COVID, flu, and RSV.
Other strategies to keep illnesses from spreading can be: washing your hands frequently, covering sneezes and coughs and wearing a mask if you are able.

Thank you in advance for doing your part to keep our school community healthy. Please continue to use the COVID 19 Checklists before sending your child to school. These checklists align to all the illnesses that are out there.Your child needs to be fever free and no vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school. Apples Familias,

¡Esperamos que todos sus hijos hayan disfrutado de regresar a la escuela esta semana! Estábamos tan felices de estar de vuelta con esto para esta corta semana.

Ahora que llegamos a finales de febrero, queremos compartir todo el aprendizaje que ha tenido lugar en torno al Mes de la Historia Negra. I hope you all are enjoying our Spring-Like Winter weather! We are excited for a love-filled week at APPLES as we continue our unit focusing on Dream Big, Be Kind, Accept ALL. We will be celebrating Valentine’s day this week with love filled activities.

Reminder February Break:

No School Friday, February 17th, Monday, February 20th and Tuesday, February 21st.

Students return to school on a normal school schedule on Wednesday, February 23rd.

Love for our Staff: In your child’s backpack tomorrow or Tuesday will be white envelope with a heart picture inside that has a staff members name in the lower right hand corner. Please have you or your child write or draw a message of thanks to these staff members. Each student will receive a few in order to ensure all staff have some love shared. Please return these hearts to the attention of Lisa and I by Thursday, February 16th. We will be using them to decorate the building with LOVE for when the staff return on Tuesday, February 21st. Our staff loves your children very much, we want to show them how much you and your children appreciate them! Be creative and thank you in advance for giving our staff some love!

Dream Big, Be Kind, Accept All

APPLES staff will focus their lessons on inclusion and diversity in celebration of February as Black History Month and March as Developmental Awareness Month. The focus of these lessons will be on the theme: “Dream Big, Be Kind, Accept All.”

This theme directly aligns to our APPLES Mission Statement, which states, “Diversity of every type is explored, respected, recognized and appreciated at APPLES. APPLES students develop skills of understanding, honoring, and accepting voices of others. APPLES celebrates differences and similarities in each of us through a genuine multicultural education. We strive to provide experiences that empower and prepare children to become successful participants in their community.”.

Staffing: We have experienced a staff shortage like most of the city and country this school year. Lisa and I are thrilled to report 5 new paraprofessionals will be starting at APPLES over the next two weeks. We will share more detailed information on the new staff with the classrooms they will be working in. Keep an eye on your child’s classroom DOJO page to meet new members.

To support Lisa and I, Maria Fiori has been hired to support PPT meetings once a week throughout the month of February. If you have a PPT for your child on a Tuesday in February, Maria will be there to support you. Many of you may remember Maria as she worked at APPLES for many years. We are so happy to have her back!

Friendly Reminder for parents who bring their children to school in the morning. The parent drop off door closes promptly at 8:15 a.m. This is due to staffing and teachers needing to begin the instructional day. Please do your best to arrive by 8:15 a.m. When you arrive after 8:15, it keeps staff out of classrooms supporting children and affects daily classroom routines. In recent weeks, many children have been arriving after 8:15 a.m. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

We are in need of wipes to support toileting and many messy activities. Please consider donating a box to APPLES as soon as you can! Thank you in advance!

We had 2 positive COVID cases this week.

Please help us keep everyone as healthy as possibly by:

Keep your child home from school and contact a healthcare provider to determine the best way to treat your child if they become sick. Testing may be appropriate for respiratory illnesses, including COVID, flu, and RSV.
Other strategies to keep illnesses from spreading can be: washing your hands frequently, covering sneezes and coughs and wearing a mask if you are able.

Thank you in advance for doing your part to keep our school community healthy. Please continue to use the COVID 19 Checklists before sending your child to school. These checklists align to all the illnesses that are out there.Your child needs to be fever free and no vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school. El personal de APPLES enfocará sus lecciones en la inclusión y la diversidad en la celebración de febrero como el Mes de la Historia Negra y marzo como el Mes de la Conciencia del Desarrollo. El enfoque de estas lecciones estará en el tema: "Sueña en grande, sé amable, acepta todo".

Este tema se alinea directamente con nuestra Declaración de misión de APPLES, que establece: “La diversidad de todo tipo se explora, respeta, reconoce y aprecia en APPLES. Los estudiantes de APPLES desarrollan habilidades para comprender, honrar y aceptar las voces de los demás. APPLES celebra las diferencias y similitudes de cada uno de nosotros a través de una genuina educación multicultural. Nos esforzamos por brindar experiencias que capaciten y preparen a los niños para que se conviertan en participantes exitosos en su comunidad”.

We are now accepting applications for our General Education Peer Program for the 23-24 School Year. This program is for students who do not receive special education services. We are mandated by law to have general education peers in our program. If you are interested in learning more about this program, our parent Orientation will be held Tuesday, January 31st from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at APPLES.

Today was a day for us to reflect on the life and service of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. APPLES speaks to his dream to have all humans be treated equally through our mission statement. Our Mission state is as follows:

Diversity of every type is explored, respected, recognized and appreciated at APPLES. APPLES students develop the skills of understanding, honoring, and accepting voices of others. APPLES celebrates differences and similarities in each of us through a genuine multicultural education. We strive to provide experiences that empower and prepare children to become successful participants in their community.

Please help us keep everyone as healthy as possibly by:

Keep your child home from school and contact a healthcare provider to determine the best way to treat your child if they become sick. Testing may be appropriate for respiratory illnesses, including COVID, flu, and RSV.
Other strategies to keep illnesses from spreading can be: washing your hands frequently, covering sneezes and coughs and wearing a mask if you are able.

Thank you in advance for doing your part to keep our school community healthy. Please continue to use the COVID 19 Checklists before sending your child to school. These checklists align to all the illnesses that are out there.Your child needs to be fever free and no vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school. Happy New Year!

We enjoyed welcoming your children back to APPLES last week. In many classrooms, students were learning about Winter and Snow, even though the weather outside was unseasonably warm!

This week will be bringing back our Family Workshop Series with a VIRTUAL workshop on Sleeping!

Please join us on Thursday, January 12th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to learn about strategies for supporting your child’s sleep. This workshop will be hosted by Emily Harris, our APPLES BCBA.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy Holiday season! As we enter the last week of the 2022 year, we would like to say Thank You to all of you for being partners with us in your child’s education. We are honored that they are with us and thankful we have had the opportunity to help them grow and develop.

Health Update for APPLES this week:

Apples and all schools are seeing an increase in overall respiratory viruses. Many of you have spoken to our nurse over the past few weeks. Please help us keep everyone as healthy as possibly by:

Keep your child home from school and contact a healthcare provider to determine the best way to treat your child if they become sick. Testing may be appropriate for respiratory illnesses, including COVID, flu, and RSV.
Other strategies to keep illnesses from spreading can be: washing your hands frequently, covering sneezes and coughs and wearing a mask if you are able.

Thank you in advance for doing your part to keep our school community healthy. Please continue to use the COVID 19 Checklists before sending your child to school. These checklists align to all the illnesses that are out there.Your child needs to be fever free and no vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school. Below is a chart that explains symptoms of the common cold or flu.

We had a busy week last week with Family Literacy Night and our Book Fair. Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help us run the Book Fair. We made over 1,200 dollars.

We now turn to the Virtual Book Fair that runs until November 29th. If you were not able to make the book fair in person, this is a great way to buy books for your children and to support APPLES. We were able to host a “table top” fair this year but we really want to be able to host a full book fair next year. In order to do this, we need to reach 2,000 dollars in sales. Please consider purchasing books for your family to help us reach that goal.

School-Based Health Clinics Provide FREE Medical and Mental Health Services

SPS has partnered with Family Centers to provide full-service health centers APPLES/Rippowam/AITE. These school-based health centers provide FREE, comprehensive on-site medical and behavioral health services to students. Parents must register their children in order to use the health centers. Reminder: Daylight Saving Time 2022

Please remember to turn your clocks back this weekend. At 2 a.m this morning, we will "fall back" one hour, hope you enjoyed your extra hour of sleep or enjoyed being awake an extra hour early with your children! :) Public Safety officials also use the end of daylight saving time as a reminder to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Family Literacy Workshop will be held on Thursday, November 17th from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

We are excited to have a family workshop on Literacy and Communication! We will be sharing strategies on reading with your child and also helping them to use their words more to communicate. We are going to show you some of the texts and strategies we are using in our Clothing Unit. Every family will go home with a book related to our clothing unit.

We had a busy week with the firetruck visiting and our family fun night. Check out photos from these fun filled events on our Instagram page @applesprek.

Thank you to our superb APPLES PTA for organizing another amazing Fall Family Night. We had over 150 of our families attend! Thank you to First County Bank for sponsoring this evening.

Three important lessons were taught to the students during the Fire Truck Visits this week:

1) Call 911 if you or a family member is having an emergency

2) Do not hide in a fire, come outside and listen to firefighters

3) Do not play with anything that makes fire (example demonstrated was a lighter)

Please review these important lessons with your child.

On Friday, the district experienced a hoax phone call regarding a fake school shooting at Stamford High School. APPLES was not directly involved in this incident. Lisa and I did send out a DOJO and email message informing families that APPLES did not go into a lockdown. In the future, when lockdown situations occur, Lisa and I will use DOJO and email to inform you. We hope we are not in these situations again but want to reassure you that we have safety and communication procedures in place for when they do occur.

Reminder: We have an Early Release this Wednesday, October 26th. All students are dismissed at 10:30 a.m.

Black and Orange Day for Halloween!

We will celebrate Black and Orange day on Monday, October 31st. This is in lieu of students wearing Halloween costumes to school. Please send your child to school wearing the colors Orange and Black.

There are a few reasons why we are not allowing children to wear their costumes to school. The children are young and need a lot of support to change into their costumes. We don’t want anything to happen to the costume (accidents, lost pieces) on Halloween and then they don’t have their costume for Trick or Treating! Finally, Halloween can be scary for some children and some families do not celebrate. For these reasons, APPLES wears Orange and Black and celebrates with Fall activities.

Tuvimos una semana ocupada con la visita del camión de bomberos y nuestra noche de diversión familiar. Vea fotos de estos eventos llenos de diversión en nuestra página de Instagram @applesprek.

Gracias a nuestra excelente PTA de APPLES por organizar otra increíble Noche Familiar de Otoño. ¡Asistieron más de 150 de nuestras familias! Gracias a First County Bank por patrocinar esta noche.

Se enseñaron tres lecciones importantes a los estudiantes durante las visitas de camiones de bomberos.

1) Llame al 911 si usted o un miembro de su familia tiene una emergencia

3) No juegues con nada que haga fuego (el ejemplo demostrado fue un encendedor)

¡Día negro y naranja para Halloween!

We are excited that we have a full week of school this week. The Stamford Fire Department will be coming this week to teach our students about Fire Safety. October is Fire Safety Month.The firefighters will be at APPLES on Tuesday, October 18th and Wednesday October 19th. Please ask your child’s classroom teacher for their specific schedule.

We are also very excited to finally be able to have our Fall Family Night! PTA Family Fall Festival will be held on TUESDAY, October 18th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at APPLES.

We are in the swing of Fall here at APPLES. All of our classes are “noticing” the changes from summer to Fall. Many classes went on nature walks this week and are learning about all about the leaves, sticks and acorns they found.

REMINDER: Kindergarten Information Night/SPS Magnet Lottery

We know it is hard to believe that Kindergarten is next year for some of your children. Now is the time to start learning about what Kindergarten will look like for your child.

Lisa and I will host a Kindergarten Information Night on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Rippowam Auditorium. We will also have a recording of this presentation available for those unable to attend in person. Families of children who will turn 5 years old on or before January 1, 2024 should attend.

In addition, the SPS Magnet School lottery application is now open for the 2023-24 school year. Magnet schools help us manage enrollment across the district while offering educational choice through unique programs and theme-based instruction. They are not better than the other elementary schools, they have different programs but follow the same standards. SPS has three local magnet elementary schools (Hart, Toquam, Westover) that enroll students from Stamford, and two Interdistrict magnet elementary schools (Rogers International School, Strawberry Hill School) that enroll 75 percent of their students from Stamford and 25 percent from surrounding communities.

If you think one of our magnet schools would be a good fit for your child, we urge you to attend an information session to learn more about the unique programs offered at each school. If y ou would like to apply to a magnet school program – the application, deadlines, lottery draw dates and acceptance deadlines are available here.

Noche de Información de Kindergarten/Lotería Magnet de SPS

Las familias de niños que cumplirán 5 años el 1 de enero de 2024 o antes deben asistir.

We had a short but jam packed week last week! We completed our 2nd fire drill of September and solidified our schedule for the Fire Truck to come visit APPLES. The Stamford Fire Department will visit APPLES on October 18th, October 19th, October 25th and October 26th. Your child’s teacher will share which specific date your child will be able to tour a fire truck at school.

Friendly reminder, there is no school this Wednesday, October 5th in observance of Yom Kippur.
